Xylingo Manifest
Hi! The Xylingo team are not teachers or linguists — we're learners just like you. We have plenty of experience failing to learn English and other languages — so we know your struggles all too well:
- unprofessional school teachers who memorized grammar rules but never actually used the language in real life;
- no one to practice with, and the shame of speaking up;
- words that just won't stick;
- not thinking in English and being unable to form a natural sentence;
- expensive private tutors.
We've been through all of it and tried countless apps — yet their promises to teach you a language turned out to be empty. Pathetic drilling tools that do nothing but waste your time and money!
After analyzing our experience, we came to one fundamental conclusion:
Unexpected? Let us explain.
A language is not a set of rules (all rules are after-the-fact analysis, not the creative foundation of language). Language is emotion! Have you ever seen a baby read grammar rules before learning to speak? Neither have we. Through emotional perception, every word takes on its own emotional coloring, its own meaning, its own visual image, smell, or physical sensation — pain, fear, pleasure, love.
That's why memorizing words and rules has nothing to do with acquiring a language — unless you're a linguist analyzing it rather than using it.
How we solved this at Xylingo:
- Context instead of translation — we don't give you word translations (because they don't truly exist: you can translate a meaning, but not an emotion). Instead, we show you a word in different contexts so you can feel what it means.
- Adaptive feed — we weave the words you're learning into your feed, so you live through the experience of using each word until the neural connections form — and it becomes a part of you.
- AI chat — zero stress: instead of judgment, the AI breaks down your mistakes and helps you speak better.
- Browser extension — reading is essential for language acquisition, but what's the point if half the words are unclear? One click to look up any word and add it to your vocabulary for further study.
No magic — just routine, made as simple and effective as possible.
Sincerely,
The Xylingo team — learning every day alongside you.
